October Alum of the Month: Sarah Hendrickson

Flannery Jewell | Oct 2, 2018

The Patton College of Education is honored to recognize Sarah Hendrickson, M.Ed., as October Alum of the Month.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences at Ohio University, Hendrickson went on to earn her master’s in Counseling in 2005. She is now the Manager of Survivor Recovery Services at The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio.

Shortly after she started working at MetroHealth, Hendrickson helped launch the Trauma Survivors Network and the MetroHealth Trauma Recovery Center, one of the top support programs for crime victims in our region. In 2017, the program was awarded a government grant worth nearly $1 million that has enabled the department to expand its outreach and care.

The Trauma Recovery Center works to get the fastest possible treatment for victims of trauma, especially those who are under-resourced. It provides transportation, meals, and specialized therapy to victims in need.

“Sarah’s leadership has resulted in integral programming for victims of violent crime and people who have experienced significant trauma,” said Cornelia Patterson, Assistant Dean for Academic Engagement and Outreach. “Her treatment focuses not only on the victim’s traumatic event but the circumstances around that event that if treated could reduce the likelihood of a repeated incident.”

Earlier this year, the American Hospital Association awarded the Trauma Recovery Center with the Hospital Award for Volunteer Excellence.
