Universities are Critical Businesses: McCracken Limited-Access Status Defined

Patton College Faculty and Staff,

Good morning! I hope you and your family are remaining happy and healthy under these circumstances.

Governor DeWine’s shelter-in-place directive, which went into effect on March 23, includes several critical exemptions for essential business and operations. Most critical to us are those for educational institutions, including universities.

According to the Ohio Department of Health’s Director’s “Stay-at-Home” order, released shortly after his 3/23 afternoon press conference, universities are critical businesses that may continue to operate “for the purposes of facilitating distance learning, performing critical research, or performing essential functions, provided that social distancing of six-feet per person is maintained to the greatest extent possible.”

This allows faculty to continue to access university facilities to teach and for critical research.

Due to the large number of OHIO ID swipes for access to McCracken Hall over the past week, beginning Wednesday, April 1, McCracken Hall is labeled "Restricted". This status means closed to visitors, both internal and external. Only Patton College faculty and staff (and vital students) will have access to the building. I have requested from faculty the names of any graduate students who MUST have access to the building, and those names have been supplied to Access Control. No other students will have access until further notice. In support of this operating condition, occupants can place signs on building doors with appropriate numbers to call to gain access.

Please continue to practice safe social distancing of at least six feet and other appropriate protocols. Do not come to McCracken if you are not feeling well or have a temperature above 99 degrees. Please advise if you have any access issues or questions.
