Alumni Spotlight: Rachel Murat

Rachel Murat, who was named 2020 New York State Teacher of the Year, is The Patton College of Education’s February Alum of the Month. Murat teaches at Maine-Endwell High School in Endwell, N.Y., and founded a nonprofit food pantry system for her district.

Alumni Spotlight: Lynda Holler

Lynda Holler, author of “My Name is Kenny I Can’t Talk” is The Patton College of Education’s January Alum of the Month. Holler began writing the book during her late husband’s 21-year battle with oral cancer. She interviewed 207 people close to him, focusing on the impact the former firefighter made on others’ lives. Since Kenny couldn’t speak, she allowed their words to tell his story.

Alum of the Month: Katie Zimmerman

The December Alum of the Month is Katie Zimmerman, the first head coach of the newly formed Western New England University's Women's Ice Hockey team. Zimmerman, a graduate of The Patton College's Master's in Coaching Education program, is also a youth coach for USA Hockey.

Student Success: Daniel Amparbeng

Daniel Amparbeng, a first-year Counselor Education doctoral student, was one of two scholars selected to be an Ohio Counseling Association (OCA) 2019-2020 Emerging Leader. The year-long program provides counselor candidates with unique opportunities to cultivate strong leadership skills within the counseling field. Amparbeng is also the vice-president of the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society (Alpha Chapter), treasurer of the Southeast Ohio Counseling Association (SEOCA), and a counselor-in-residence for students on campus.

Alum of the Month: Vlatko Andonovski

Vlatko Andonovski, who was named head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), is The Patton College of Education’s November Alum of the Month. Andonovski completed his master’s degree in soccer coaching education in 2018. At 43, he is the third-youngest head coach in the team’s history.
