Teacher Leader Endorsement

Teacher Leader EndorsementThe Ohio University Patton College of Education Teacher Leader Endorsement is designed to meet the needs of teachers who aspire to leadership roles in their schools and districts. Participants will gain knowledge and skills to enable them to provide quality professional development for their colleagues, coach and mentor other teachers, facilitate positive school/community relations, organize and analyze data and assist their principals with school improvement efforts. The Teacher Leader Endorsement will also help educators meet the requirements for the Lead Professional Educators License, the highest qualification on Ohio’s highest 4-tiered Licensure Structure.

Additionally, with advisor’s approval, the coursework required for the Teacher Leader Endorsement may be used to meet course requirements in other graduate education programs.  Course in the program are as follows:

  • EDAD 7300 Advanced Seminar in Leadership (4 semester hours)
  • EDAD 7900 Special Topics in Educational Administration Developing Teacher Leaders (4 semester hours)
  • EDAD 7915 Advanced Seminar in Leadership I (2 semester hours)

The 10 hour block consisting of two 4 hour courses and a 2 hour internship, will be offered through an online format, which meets the needs of working professionals.  The entire program can be completed in two consecutive semesters, either a summer/fall or fall/spring schedule.  The internship, however, will include an on-site visitation by the college supervisor sometime during the semester in which the student is enrolled.  The Ohio Department of Education does not require a test for completion of this endorsement.    

Only currently licensed teachers or undergraduates who graduate in spring and are expecting to receive licensure over the summer are eligible for this program. Because courses are offered at the graduate level, they may be used to renew your teaching license.  Unfortunately, this endorsement is not part of the senior to graduate students program. Endorsement cohorts are not eligible for GA/GRS tuition waivers.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Possess a professional license/certificate
  • Have completed 4 years of successful teaching
  • Have earned a master’s degree from an accredited institution prior to being admitted to the endorsement program

The Patton College offers a variety of programs at Ohio University regional campuses and eCampus. All cohort programs and the courses therein are contingent on a specified minimum enrollment of students. Program start dates may be postponed if the minimum enrollment is not reached. This decision will be made no fewer than 30 days prior to the advertised start date.

Please note:  Due to a change in the Ohio Administrative Code 333-1-05, all endorsement programs in the State of Ohio must now show alignment with a 50 clock hour field experience for each endorsement and each additional license beyond the initial license. This change in code was approved by the State in November 2016. Students being admitted into programs beginning in the Fall 2017 Semester will be subject to this change in law.
