ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – Ohio University Eastern Campus will be hosting the OUE Shark Challenge, an event focused on creating innovative ideas in the Ohio Valley, on Tuesday, March 28, at 6:00 p.m. The event, which is part of a number of community related activities leading up to OUE’s 60th Anniversary Gala this fall, is being sponsored by TechGROWTH Ohio. TMI Hospitality (Residence Inn) and Murray Energy are also providing support for the event.
The concept of an academic business pitch competition originated with TechGROWTH Ohio, a public-private partnership connected with Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. Through TechGROWTH Ohio, entrepreneurs and technology start-up companies in Southeast Ohio can access business assistance and capital.
The OUE Shark Challenge will feature teams of students from regional colleges and universities. Returning from last year’s event will be - Ohio University Eastern, Belmont College, Ohio University Zanesville, and defending champions, Eastern Gateway Community College. A newcomer joining the competition this year will be Kent State Trumbull. Each team will consist of three students and a faculty advisor as their coach.
Presenting to a panel of three judges, these teams will be competing to win a first place prize of $1000. A second place prize of $500 will also be awarded.
Dr. Paul Abraham, Dean of Ohio University Eastern, is enthusiastic about the prospects of this year’s event saying, “With the success of last year’s event, I am excited to see what the OUE Shark Challenge has in store for this year. This event allows students to pitch a business idea in a scholastic environment while contributing to the support of the region’s economic revitalization.”
The OUE Shark Challenge is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will also be provided at the event. For more information on the OUE Shark Challenge email OUESharkTeam@ohio.edu.
