October 21, 2019 : Hiromi Katayama to show artwork at Ohio University Eastern

ST.   CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (October 21, 2019) – Hiromi Katayama will be exhibiting her artwork at the Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery Monday, October 28 through Thursday, December 5.  The exhibit, entitled “Natural Introductions,” will showcase her talents in creative art.

An opening reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, November 7 at 7pm.

A native of Ibarki, Japan, Katayama, is a professional artist currently working from her private studio in Houston, Pennsylvania.  Before she came to the United States, Hiromi received her BFA in Japanese Traditional Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design, Tokyo, Japan, in the spring of 2008.  Hiromi then traveled to Pennsylvania, where she studied for her MFA in the painting program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, graduating in May of 2012.

At the close of her personal academic journey, Hiromi gained representation and found success as her galleries’ clientele received her art.  She continues to create work using traditional Japanese pigments and techniques; through traditional methods and materials, and her belief in cultural foundations in nature, she hopes to share her culture and a little bit of herself with her audience.

Through international exhibition and public displays of her work, Hiromi strives to influence, inspire, and educate. This vision has resulted in the permanent exhibition of her work in museums, corporations, and esteemed private collections.

“I am excited to display my art work at Ohio University’s Eastern Campus,” she said.  “My love for creative art was founded in the private studio of my mentor, Renjoin Sensei, at the age of nine years old.  Today, my work is created using traditional Japanese pigments and techniques; utilizing traditional methods and materials, and imagery founded in my belief of cultural foundations in nature.  Through this work, I hope to share my culture and a little bit of myself with my audience.  In addition, I am also looking forward to begin working as an art instructor this spring semester at the Eastern Campus.”

Ohio University Eastern Faculty Chair Zijian Diao shares Hiromi’s enthusiasm.  “Ohio University Eastern is the hub of academic and creative activities in eastern Ohio, where the best talents around the region converge and thrive.  We are very fortunate to host Ms. Katayama’s art show and are equally excited to have her join our faculty in the upcoming spring semester.”

The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery is open to the public and admission is free.  The Art Gallery displays the works of local and national artists, as well as of the faculty, staff, and students of Ohio University.  It is located on the second floor of Shannon Hall and is open to the public 10am - 4pm Monday through Thursday.
