August 24, 2018 : Ohio University Eastern nationally recognized for affordability

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – When Ohio University Eastern was established in 1957, its mission was to provide residents of the Ohio Valley with access to an affordable and high quality public university education.

There have been many changes over the last sixty one years, including a relocation from Martins Ferry High School to the beautiful campus in St. Clairsville, to the increase in the number of baccalaureate programs and course offerings, but the mission of access to an affordable Ohio University education has remained the same.

Case in point, Student Loan Hero recently conducted a study comparing local minimum wages to costs at over 1,500 U.S. colleges to see if working your way through college is still possible.  According to their research, the city of St. Clairsville, home to Ohio University Eastern, is ranked number nine nationally as a city where college students can earn enough to pay for college tuition.

Jonathan Ebbert, a 2013 graduate in exercise physiology, whole-heartedly agrees with the assessment.  “Ohio University Eastern was a great choice for me,” he said.  “I received a top notch education, was able to hold down a job, and graduated debt-free as a result.”

A St. Clairsville native, Ebbert went on to earn a doctorate of physical therapy.  In addition to working full-time in the field, he also teaches as an adjunct exercise physiology instructor at his alma mater.  “I attended graduate school with students who attended larger schools from all over the country and found that my preparation at Ohio University Eastern was second to none.  I feel fortunate to be able to give back now by teaching at the Eastern Campus.”

Ohio University Eastern Interim Dean Bob Klein is also proud of the mission and excited to announce a new policy with regard to tuition called The OHIO Guarantee.  “The OHIO Guarantee means students attending the Eastern Campus will pay a single fixed rate that covers tuition and most fees for four years.  During the 2018-2019 year, new Ohio residents who enroll full-time at OUE will pay $2745 per semester.”

He concluded, “An Ohio University degree is an investment, and we are continuously striving to make college more affordable and accessible, while maintaining the high quality and value of an OHIO education.  We’re committed to transparency and predictability, two tenants of The OHIO Guarantee.”
