MIDDLETOWN - Miami Middletown took advantage of an 8-0 run to end the first half with a 60-47 lead and fought off visiting OUE down the stretch to escape with a 101-98 victory Sunday. The Panthers cut the lead to 100-98 on a three pointer by Austin Coleman with 15 seconds remaining. Following a timeout, OUE forced a turnover but was not able to convert as Jay Farrow's power move in the paint rolled out with 8 seconds remaining. Middletown's Braxton Lavil was promptly fouled and the 6'4" junior made one of two foul shots to extend the lead to 101-98. The Panthers had one last shot but Farrow's three point attempt drew iron as time expired.
Lavil led Middletown with 29 points and 6 rebounds. Farrow led OUE once again with 35 points and 10 rebounds. Coleman chipped in with 18 markers while former Cambridge cager Connor Leppla added 17 points and 8 boards. Gherrold Kimbrew added 13 points.
Middletown improved to 5-1 while OUE fell to 3-2.
