CHILLICOTHE – The Ohio University Eastern women’s and men’s basketball teams went on the road Sunday afternoon and came away with two hard fought victories over OHIO Chillicothe.
The Lady Panthers got the double header matinee started with a 71-60 victory. OUE never trailed in the game and led 38-33 at the half, as Buckeye Local freshman Alaire Destifanes exploded for 25 points before intermission. The Lady Panthers extended the half time lead to 55-44 after three frames as Buckeye Local alum Becky Zeroski and St. John grad Kaylin Nixon started to fill the stat sheet as well. Destifanes finished with a career high 38 markers and 6 assists. Zeroski totaled 14 points and 4 assists while Nixon chipped in with 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Hilltoppers were led by Braiden Collins with 28 points.
OUE is now 1-1 on the season and returns home to play Akron-Wayne on Wednesday, December 4 at 5:30pm. OU Chillicothe falls to 3-2.
Sophomore sensation Jay Farrow led the men’s team to a narrow 98-95 victory over the Hilltopper men. Farrow finished with a career high 41 points and also led the Panthers with 12 rebounds. The game was back and forth throughout as OHIO Chillicothe led 46-42 at the break and extended the lead to 52-42 with two quick three-pointers by Hayden Mink to start the second half. The Panthers fought back with full court pressure and eventually took the lead at 92-89 on a bonus bomb by Gherrold Kimbrew with 1:59 remaining in the game. OUE was able to hold on down the stretch as Cambridge alum Connor Leppla and Farrow swished two free throws each in the closing minute. Austin Coleman also played well and finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Leppla added 17 and 6 boards and Monroe Central freshman Zach Jones chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Mink led the Hilltoppers with 22 points.
OUE is now 3-0 on the season and returns home to play Akron-Wayne on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30pm. OU Chillicothe falls to 4-2.
