Graduation Requirements Communications Studies

Each year the Eastern Campus has an honors recognition ceremony for graduates in December (for summer and fall graduates) and in May (for spring graduates).  The graduates who attend these ceremonies will wear caps and caps. Please plan on attending the wonderful celebration of our students’ accomplishments. Check back for details as the dates get closer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAP & GOWN PACKAGES

All packages include the necessary regalia to participate in the Commencement Ceremonies. Individual items may be purchased if a student desires a souvenir or replacement item. Previous semester graduates may purchase packages by clicking (here). (Link will be active mid-February to commencements)

If you ordered a cap and gown package through the Spring graduation application, you do NOT need to order from this page. Cap and gown packages include all necessary regalia. Individual items may be purchased from the linked site as additional souvenirs or as replacement items.

*Please note that gowns feature distinct styles for Associate/Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees. A Bachelor gown may not be worn at the graduate/masters ceremony.


ORDERING - FAQ

How do I go about ordering my cap & gown?

  • When you completed your graduation application, you were  asked if you were going to attend a ceremony at a regional campus.  If you said yes, you were instructed to state your size/height and what location of pickup. If you did not order a cap and gown you will need to place your order via the “Student Full Packages” web page by clicking (here).

I just need a cap/tassel/hood. How do I order an individual item?

I have a cap and gown from my high school/undergraduate/masters graduation - can I just wear that?

  • The cap and gown fabric and shade of black are specific to OHIO University, so you may not wear regalia from a graduation ceremony at another institution. Also, the gown style is different for each level of degree earned (undergraduate, masters, doctoral), so you will need to order the appropriate cap and gown associated with your degree.

Does my order include the tassel and/or hood, or do I have to order those separately?

  • Your package includes a cap, gown, and tassel according to your major. You do not need to order a tassel separately.

What if I am earning two degrees and want a tassel for both degrees? 

  • (Applies only to undergraduate students)
  • You will need to place a separate order for a second tassel. The cap and gown package includes only one tassel, even if you are earning two degrees; however, be sure to verify the tassel color associated with each degree as some degrees within the same college have the same tassel color.

Why isn’t there a charge for my cap and gown order on my student account?

  • If you placed your order through the Cashnet site you were instructed to pay with a credit or debit card, so your student account will not be billed. If you ordered through the graduation application process your bill should show the package price for the regalia needed for the ceremony.

PICK UP - FAQ

When and where do I pick up my cap and gown order?

  • Fall graduation ceremony: Pick-ups will take place at the Student Services office between December 11 and December 13.
  • Spring graduation ceremony: Pick-ups will take place at graduation rehearsal which is Thursday, May 2nd at 2:00 PM in the Fitness Center.

Can my order be mailed to me?

  • At this time, it is not feasible for us to ship cap & gown orders to their recipients.

Can a friend pick up my package for me?

  • Yes – he or she will just need a valid driver’s license or student ID so that our staff can keep track of who picked up your order.

REFUNDS & EXCHANGES - FAQ

Something came up & I no longer plan to walk at the ceremony - can I get a refund for my cap & gown?

  • Unfortunately, we do not issue refunds for cap and gown sales. This is listed in the graduation application and on our web site.

HONOR CORDS - FAQ

I think I’m eligible for honor cords - how do I get them?

  • Honor cord eligibility is determined by the Registrar’s Office and is based on the previous semester’s accumulative grade point average (AGPA) for your bachelor degrees.
    • 3.500 to 3.749, Cum Laude receives bronze honor cords
    • 3.750 to 3.899, Magna Cum Laude receives silver honor cords
    • 3.900 to 4.00, Summa Cum Laude receives gold honor cords
  • You will be issued your honor cords when you pick up your cap and gown at rehearsal in the Fitness Center.

  • Fall graduation ceremony: Friday, December 13, 2019 at 6:30pm

Where is the ceremony?

  • Fall ceremony: Shannon Hall Theater
  • Spring ceremony: Health and Physical Education Center (Fitness Center)

Graduates arrival time and place?

  • Spring ceremony: Graduates should arrive at the Fitness Center at 6:30 pm. Graduates will assemble on the second floor mezzanine area.

Will pictures be taken during the ceremony?

  • Spring ceremony: We will have a professional photographer available to take your picture prior to the ceremony on the second floor mezzanine area, and the cost is $20.

Is there a guest limit?

  • There is no guest limit not but please register for the event with the number of guests that will be attending, including yourself.

Are tickets needed for the ceremony?

  • No, but you need to register for the event so we can have an accurate count for programs.

Are there handicapped accessible accommodations?

  • Yes, there are ramps and special seating sections. Please indicate on the registration form what accommodations are needed.

Is the ceremony air conditioned?

  • Yes.

How long does the ceremony last?

  • The ceremony will last approximately 1-1⁄2 hours.

How do I get on the graduation recognition ceremony list?

Where do we park?

  • Fall ceremony: You can park in any of the student parking lot on campus, and there is no charge for parking. Handicap parking sports are marked at the west end of Shannon Hall.
  • Spring ceremony: You can park in any of the parking lots on campus, and there is no charge for parking. Handicap parking will be available in the lots closest to the Health and Physical Education Center.
