Nursing

The traditional (on-campus) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) major provides the classroom and clinical education needed to prepare graduates for the challenges of complex and changing healthcare systems. Classes are held on Ohio University’s main campus in Athens as well as the regional campuses of Eastern, Chillicothe, Southern, and Zanesville. Clinical training takes place at hospitals and clinics in southeast Ohio. Students will need to arrange transportation to some of these sites. Candidates accepted to the program, both freshmen and transfers, enter as pre-BSN majors. During the summer between the first and second years, successful pre-majors are selected to advance to the BSN major. After completing the final three years of the program, student nurses graduate and take a licensing exam.

Program Requirements

Ohio University Catalog for Nursing (Pre-BSN, ND1220)

Students seeking admission to the School of Nursing apply to Ohio University as Pre-BSN majors (ND1220) and complete prerequisite courses outlined later in this document. Acceptance into the Pre-BSN program is selective. During spring semester students meeting all requirements apply for consideration for selection to the BSN program (BS1221). The selected group of students will have the opportunity to complete the final three years of the BSN program, graduate, and sit for the NCLEX licensing exam. Information about the selection process will appear later in this document.
