Suicide Prevention

Campus Resources

Students who may be contemplating suicide or are concerned about a friend or peer may seek support at Counseling and Psychological Services. We have drop-in hours from 9:45am-3:15pm, Monday – Friday. Our office is open from 8am-5pm on weekdays.

Students coming in for a drop-in appointment will meet briefly with a counselor to begin to address immediate concerns and then establish a plan for ongoing appointments/services (e.g., individual counseling, group counseling, psychiatric consultation).

After business hours, students may call the CPS main number to get in touch with an after-hours counselor (740-593-1616).

They may also attend “Let’s Talk” hours, which are evening drop-in hours from Sunday – Friday, 5-10pm at Jefferson Hall, 122. Let’s Talk involves meeting with a “Counselor-In-Residence,” and we have several CRs who are advanced graduate students in counseling, and are supervised by licensed senior staff at CPS, and are available for consultation.

Anyone who is concerned about an imminent threat of harm (whether to oneself or someone else) should also contact the police or go to Emergency Room.

Faculty/staff who may be in distress may utilize resources provided by Employee Assistance Programs, such as Impact Solutions ( http://www.impactemployeeassistance.com/ ).

Student Organizations

There are student organizations focused on suicide prevention, if individuals are interested in helping to raise awareness and knowledge about suicide and how to help one’s peers. Organizations include Bobcats for Suicide Prevention Campaign and PostIt!

Bobcats for Suicide Prevention  is a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the threats of suicide among OHIO students and the general population, and promoting healthy living among students.

PostIt! Intends to spread suicide awareness, positive reminders, peer support, and an anonymous outlet for people to share personal experiences through Post-It Notes.
