Quarantine & Isolation Housing

For students living on-campus at the Athens campus, Ohio University provides quarantine/isolation housing for four different situations of COVID-19 diagnosis, contact, and exposure. Students will receive these temporary housing assignments by a case manager based on results of asymptomatic testing, COVID-19 Hotline interactions, and COVID-19 incident reports as a part of the Ohio University Student COVID-19 Response Protocol.

On-campus students are required to quarantine or isolate in either the university-provided housing or in their home residence upon determination of an assignment.

Please note that university-provided quarantine and isolation housing is only available to students living on-campus and paying room and board fees.

All students assigned to isolation or quarantine housing will be provided with the following:

  • Microfridge

  • Private/semi-private bath

  • Linens

  • Transportation to the quarantine/isolation hall

  • Coordination of meals

  • Care package of snacks

  • Support chats with the Counselor in Residents on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00–9:00 p.m. via Teams. Students will receive this link in their email follow-up message from the department.

  • Routine follow-up by an assigned COVID-19 Campus Liaison

  • Information in the room for students about expectations and how to access staff for questions or emergency needs

  • Isolation Housing – COVID-19 Positive

Students that have tested positive for COVID-19 will be assigned to isolation housing for 10 days.

Isolation housing prohibits students from leaving their residence hall room, which is equipped with a private bathroom.

  • Isolation Housing – Symptomatic & Awaiting Test Results

Students that are awaiting COVID-19 results and are also experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are either assigned to isolation housing or asked to isolate in place, based on the student's type of residence hall room. The amount of time assigned is determined on a case-by-case basis. If the student's test result is positive, he or she will be placed in isolation housing for 10 days.

Isolation housing prohibits students from leaving their residence hall room, which is equipped with a private bathroom.

  • Quarantine Housing – COVID-19 Exposure Contact

Students that have been classified as high-risk through direct exposure to COVID-19 will be assigned to quarantine housing for 14 days. COVID exposure is defined as being within six feet of a COVID positive person (case) with or without a mask for at least 15 minutes. A person who has had this type of exposure is referred to as a contact.

  • Quarantine Housing – Travel Advisory Risk

Students traveling to campus from states listed as a travel advisory and any foreign country will be assigned to quarantine housing for 14 days.
