OHIO Protocols for Vaccinated Individuals

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers individuals to be fully vaccinated:

  • Two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series, or
  • Two weeks after receiving one dose of a single-dose vaccine.

Testing

All OHIO students, faculty and staff are required to choose either the Vaccination Pathway or the Weekly Testing Pathway as part of the COVID-19 Testing Pathway Program. Individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination when selecting the Vaccination Pathway will not be required to test.

Quarantine and Isolation

The CDC now exempts fully vaccinated people from quarantine due to exposure, without symptoms.

Although the risk that fully vaccinated people could become infected with COVID-19 is low, the CDC recommends that fully vaccinated people should still get tested if they experience COVID-19 symptoms. Any fully vaccinated OHIO student, faculty, or staff who tests positive or experiences symptoms should isolate themselves from others and follow the OHIO COVID-19 Protocol.

Face Coverings

Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks anywhere on campus, except where otherwise required in healthcare or clinical environments, and on public transportation. This applies both indoors and outdoors.

Ohio University acknowledges that some people who are vaccinated may continue to wear masks due to having additional health risks, for the protection of high-risk loved ones, or for any other reason. Everyone is encouraged to carry a mask with them and wear it when interacting closely with those who choose to wear a face covering.

Physical Distancing

Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to maintain physical distance from others anywhere on campus, indoors or out, except for in classrooms,* where everyone is required to maintain three feet of physical distance from others who are not members of their household. Some academic programs may require that all participants keep physical distance of at least six feet from others who are not members of their household.

*For the purposes of physical distancing, classrooms are defined as any indoor campus spaces that are assigned for learning activities (lectures, labs, studios, etc.).
