Allowances for Isolation, Quarantine, and Remain-in-Room

  Isolation Quarantine Remain-in-Room
Duration At least 10 days from onset of symptoms or date of positive test. 14 days from last known exposure; at least 10 days with active participation in case management. Until spread is contained, likely 14 days.
Location Temporary assigned housing with a private or shared bathroom, or permanent home residence. Permanently assigned residence hall room.
Student Support
  • Outreach and support chats with a Counselor in Residence via Teams. 
  • Student can opt in for a phone or e-mail check-in from their RA or GRD/RD. 
  • All-hall meeting via Teams.
  • Follow-up by COVID Campus Liaison (CCL).
Food
  • Delivered by Culinary Services—must complete the meal order form.
  • Can order delivery from contactless services.
  • Continue visiting the dining hall as usual. Must wear mask and maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet.
  • Can order delivery from contactless services.
Leaving the Room
  • To use restroom or laundry facilities, or for emergencies only.
  • Must wear mask and maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet.
  • May leave building only in case of emergency (e.g. fire alarm) or to seek medical care with advance written permission from COVID Operations or Housing and Residence Life.  
  • Those in quarantine may leave for symptomatic COVID-19 testing.
  • To use restroom or laundry facilities, or for emergencies only.
  • Must wear mask and maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet.
  • May leave building only in case of emergency (e.g. fire alarm) or to seek medical care with advance written permission from COVID Operations or Housing and Residence Life.  
  • Those in Remain-in-Room may leave for required asymptomatic or symptomatic COVID-19 testing, to visit dining halls, or for required academic activities, provided they wear a mask and maintain physical distance.
Laundry With mask and physical distancing, provided that laundry facilities are located in the assigned hall. The Wash Alert App allows students to get notifications and check availability of the washers and dryers.
Spending Time with Others Not permitted
COVID-19 Testing
  • Those in quarantine and isolation are excused from regularly scheduled asymptomatic testing.
  • Those in quarantine may access symptomatic testing by calling OHIO COVID Operations at 1-740-566-8445 or completing a COVID-19 Incident Report form. An OHIO COVID Campus Liaison (CCL) will advise on further steps.
Continue regularly scheduled testing as well as any additional testing as directed. Must wear mask and maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet.
Packages If you expect to receive packages that contain medical or important academic content, email COVIDhousing@ohio.edu to make arrangements for delivery.
