President Nellis announces search committee for new Vice President for University Communications and Marketing

Ohio University President Dr. M. Duane Nellis sent the following message to Ohio University faculty and staff on Dec. 12, 2018, to announce the search committee for the new Vice President for University Communications and Marketing position.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

During my inaugural address, I shared our collective vision to take our branding and marketing efforts to greater heights by finding new, strategic, consistent, and rhetorically powerful ways to talk about Ohio University. For too long, we have been a “best-kept secret” in this pocket of America; we must develop a brand that speaks to how we are leading the way in higher education and providing access to academic excellence.

Over the past year, we created the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) Executive Group to review the results of an external audit of our University’s communications and marketing efforts and organizational structure. Recently, this executive group provided me with a set of recommendations and, as part of their review, they recommended we elevate the title of the UCM department leader from Chief Marketing Officer to Vice President for University Communications and Marketing.

I have accepted their recommendation and write today to share with you the names of the individuals who have agreed to serve on the search committee. I am very pleased Dr. Hugh Sherman, Dean of the College of Business, and Dr. Gigi Secuban, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, have agreed to co-chair this search committee. This committee includes a broad cross-section of our University and represents the importance I place on this newly-elevated position. It is my intention to recruit and select the Vice President for University Communications and Marketing by June 1. The members of this committee are listed below. I want to thank these members of our community for their help with this important endeavor.

As the search processes get underway, there will be opportunities for the University community to interact with finalists whom the committee invites to Athens for campus visits. I will be updating you on these developments and I urge you to participate in this important part of the process. In the meantime, please join me in thanking the search committee members and in lending them your support.

Kind Regards,

M. Duane Nellis
President
