Ohio University’s Theater Division presents Tony Award-Winning Musical, “Cabaret”

A musical that looks at nightlife in Nazi Occupied Berlin

Ohio University’s Theater Division in the School of Dance, Film and Theater is proud to present “Cabaret,” the third production of the 2018–2019 season, with shows at 8 p.m. Nov. 29- Dec. 1 and Dec. 4-8, with a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Forum theater.

“Cabaret,” with a book by Joe Masteroff, and music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, is directed and choreographed by M.F.A. Directing Candidate Anne McAlexander, with musical direction by Assistant Professor and Head of Musical Theater Alan Patrick Kenny.

The story begins as aspiring novelist Clifford Bradshaw arrives in Berlin in the early 1930s with chronic writer’s block. While taking in the sights at the decadent Kit Kat Klub, he meets Sally Bowles, a charming cabaret performer. After falling madly in love and spending far too much time party hopping, various romantic and sexual complications arise. This classic musical packs a wallop with its terrifying look at totalitarianism.

McAlexander directs her M.F.A. thesis project as the culmination of her degree in the Professional Director Training Program at OHIO, while Kenny musically directs the student cast that includes Kezia Waters, Elizabeth Hendricks, Jackson Savage, Courtney Abbott, Michael Dias, Nick Wilson, Sophia VanGessel, Adelina Miller, Abigail McNulty, Perri Olson, Zenzi Mda, Emma Konjevich, Lindsay Pierce, Caleb Crawford, Seth Eggenschwiller, Payton Wilks, Jack Benken, Hannah Woodside and Andy E. Figueroa.

Talkbacks will follow the Dec. 1 and 5 performances.
