Meet the Farmers Market event Friday

In celebration of the late fall harvest, Ohio University’s Office of Sustainability and The Patton College of Education’s Department of Human and Consumer Sciences have partnered to bring the inaugural Meet the Farmers Market event to campus on Friday, Oct. 26.

The event is free and open to the public, and will be located in McCracken Hall 120 and the attached demonstration kitchen. It will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a farmers market fair, and is scheduled to end at 5:30 p.m.

“This event is part of a sustainable food series that includes programming and experiential learning opportunities in efforts to connect people with passions about local foodways systems with the tools and resources to create and make sustainable food options,” said Thomas Stevenson, visiting assistant professor in the Restaurant, Hotel and Tourism program.

Attendees will meet local farmers, sample products and have the opportunity to purchase local produce. They will also have the chance to learn preparation techniques for locally grown products, as the event will be attended by local chefs.

“We will also host a pumpkin carving competition that RHT students and community members will participate in,” Stevenson added.
