At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, Better Together at Ohio University and United Campus Ministry will hold the eighth annual 9/11 Interfaith Peace Walk.  

Ohio University President Dr. M. Duane Nellis will offer opening remarks and participate in the walk.

The Better Together Campaign, which plans and coordinates the Peace Walk, seeks to engage people of all faith traditions and philosophical and ethical orientations in action for the common good as a means of building community and trust across religious divisions.

The walk will begin in front of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on University Terrace, and will end with a candlelight vigil and song at the Islamic Center on Stewart Street. In between, it will thread through the campus and uptown Athens, passing many of the faith communities that co-sponsor the walk.

As in past years, co-sponsoring faith communities and organizations are bringing some candles to share at the end of the walk, but participants are encouraged to bring candles to the vigil if they have them.

Co-sponsors of this year's Peace Walk include: Appalachian Peace & Justice Network, the Athens Catholic Community, Athens First Presbyterian Church, Athens Friends Meeting, Better Together at Ohio University, Christ Lutheran Church, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), First United Methodist Church of Athens, Hillel at Ohio University, the International Student Union, the Ohio University Multicultural Center, the Muslim Student Association, the Ohio University LGBT Center, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Southeast Ohio, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, and the Ohio University Women's Center.
