Women’s scholars program accepting applications from first-year female students

Deadline to apply for Margaret Boyd Scholars Program is Oct. 19

Ohio University’s first and only women’s scholar program is seeking applications from first-year female students on the Athens Campus who are interested in participating in a four-year academic enrichment and leadership development experience.

The Margaret Boyd Scholars Program is accepting online applications now through 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Named after OHIO’s first female graduate, the program is open to all first-year undergraduate women on the Athens Campus and seeks to inspire its participants to become engaged, confident and connected leaders at Ohio University and beyond.

Twenty first-year students will be selected for this year’s cohort of Margaret Boyd Scholars and will join the ranks of approximately 100 female Bobcats who have been named Margaret Boyd Scholars since the program debuted during the 2013-14 academic year.

Applications for the program are available online. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program in late November.

Each cohort’s Margaret Boyd Scholars Program experience officially begins just prior to the start of spring semester with a scholars’ retreat followed by a first-year seminar, taught by faculty who serve on the program’s advisory board, during spring semester. Other elements of the program include a second-year residential component, a third-year internship experience, a fourth-year capstone seminar, and many exclusive opportunities for both intellectual and personal growth throughout the scholars’ undergraduate years.

The Margaret Boyd Scholars Program is a partnership between Ohio University’s Division of Student Affairs and University College.
