OHIO faculty and staff encouraged to plan for increased parking activity, traffic during Bobcat Move-In 2018

University faculty and staff are asked to remain aware of the potential for increased campus traffic and parking lot activity as OHIO students begin to officially return to campus this week.

When is Bobcat Move-In?

The majority of OHIO’s students are scheduled to return to campus during Bobcat Move-In between Wednesday, Aug. 22 and Sunday, Aug. 26. Fall Semester 2018 classes will begin Monday, Aug. 27.

Officers with the Ohio University Police Department and staff members from Housing and Residence Life will be available during this time to help direct traffic to residence halls and answer questions regarding where individuals can unload belongings. Additionally, directional signage will be posted along US 33/32, US 50 and throughout campus to guide individuals to the appropriate areas of campus.

Various parking lots and campus roadways are likely to experience increased activity and congestion while students return — some temporarily with multiple vehicles as parents, family and guests accompany them with their items.

What can faculty and staff do to save time during their commute and avoid campus congestion?

OHIO Parking and Transportation Services (TPS) is encouraging faculty and staff to consider carpooling if possible in an effort to avoid campus traffic and parking congestion; carpooling would also assist to accommodate students and their families during this busy, but temporary, move-in period.

Other tips and tricks include:

  • Allow an extra 15-20 minutes to your morning commute to ensure time for potential traffic and parking delays.
  • Map out alternative driving routes and parking areas in order to avoid potential delays related to Bobcat Move-In. OHIO’s Campus Parking map is available to serve as a campus-wide travel and parking resource.
  • Free public transportation is available for those who desire to avoid driving and parking within congested areas of campus.
