Ohio University marks Severe Weather Awareness Week

Ohio’s Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 17-23, 2019. Ohio University will participate in the Ohio Statewide Tornado Drill on March 20, 2019 at 9:50 am, by testing the campus-wide emergency notification system, which includes outdoor siren, text message and email alert.

The Emergency Programs Office will host a brown bag lunch training entitled “Tornadoes in SE Ohio” March 25 from noon-1 p.m. in Baker University Center, Room 237. At this training, participants will learn that Ohio's peak tornado season is generally April through July, and that Athens County has had tornado and straight-line wind damage in the recent past. Discussion will revolve around having an action plan should a tornado be sighted, knowing the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning, and the importance of practicing a home drill with your family.

Email Bev Wyatt to register for the training session.
