Cardio with Cupid event offers members a chance to exercise with a seasonal twist

For those hoping to shake up their normal exercise routine or maybe just looking to get a head start in working off some of that Valentine’s Day chocolate, Campus Recreation has the perfect opportunity. This upcoming Valentine’s Day, Campus Rec will be hosting its annual Cardio with Cupid event. The event will take place from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Ping Recreation Center.

The event, which includes a series of group fitness classes taught by Ping instructors, provides students the opportunity to try out a number of cardio fitness staples in a more relaxed environment.

“We have the instructors come in with Valentine’s attire, so instead of their normal instructor shirts they might wear something with red or pink to give more light to the room,” said Brittany Holloman, a graduate assistant at Ping. “It helps give the event a fun and festive aura.”

“The idea is to change things up for participants and allow both patrons and our instructors to de-stress,” said Wes Bonadio, associate director of programs at Campus Recreation. “We want to help everyone have fun by incorporating a Valentine’s Day theme throughout our group fitness classes.”

Holloman also pointed out that the event allows the participating Ping staff an opportunity to work on something as a team.

“It’s a staff morale thing, in some cases the only time we get to see each other is when we are coming in and out. Because it's not a big event, we don’t need to pull in a lot of outside resources,” said Holloman. “Cardio with Cupid is something we as a staff do together, decorating rooms, writing motivating things on the mirrors, the event gives us all an opportunity to work together.”

Whether trying out a new fitness group or attending as a Ping regular, both Bonadio and Holloman both hope that Cardio with Cupid highlights a bit of OHIO’s community spirit.

“It’s about just having fun and embracing the special day,” said Bonadio. “Whether you actively celebrate the holiday or not, it’s an opportunity to show your appreciation for others.”

Cardio with Cupid is free to all students and other Ping members. No other registration is required.
