Information session on study abroad opportunities in Ecuador

An information session on study abroad opportunities in Ecuador will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in Baker University Center 230.

The three study abroad opportunities in Ecuador include the following programs:

  • Tropical Disease Research and Service Learning - Students in this program work closely with the Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute (ITDI) to implement projects with positive health impacts for Ecuadorian communities. Participants will learn how to conduct interdisciplinary research with social, economic and biological components. The program also provides opportunities for students to contribute to service in the communities and learn about intercultural communication while working in a team. 
  • Community and Public Health - The participants in this program will travel to communities in rural and urban Ecuador in the Andean and Amazon regions and in cities to explore public health issues. OHIO students will visit public and private hospitals, talk with local health officials, learn about natural healing in the rainforest, and be involved with a needs assessment or collecting data.
  • Nursing in Ecuador - This program is designed for nursing and pre-med students in the College of Health Sciences and Professions who are interested in learning about the intersection of community and clinical health and the practice of healthcare in another country. The program activities may involve community needs assessments, traditional medicine practices, health service delivery, cross-cultural comparisons, and clinical experiences.
