To meet the rising demand for online education, Ohio University is seeing more courses and programs being offered online, with even more in the queue. The Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) offers support to faculty interested in teaching online by providing current tools and strategies, as well as course design and redesign.
To help faculty create more effective online learning environments, OII is again offering a Design Studio for Online and Blended Courses in January 2018. This week-long, intensive workshop will include sessions about course design, interactive tools, and multimedia design techniques that can be incorporated into both blended and online courses. The workshop will take place January 8–12, 2018, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to providing tips, tools and resources to inspire faculty to enhance the design of their courses,” said Hope Moore, an instructional designer with OII. “We will help calm their worries about transitioning from face-to-face to an online or blended format.”
Participants will experience hands-on, structured workshops, daily individual assistance and consultation, group discussions, and sharing opportunities. By the end of the week, attendees will be able to apply effective design techniques to create a course that focuses on alignment to their course goals, use interactive tools to facilitate discussions and foster a sense of community, and find and develop multimedia that enhance their students’ learning experiences.
Those interested in attending should submit an application by Tuesday, December 19. If selected to attend, applicants will be contacted by Friday, December 22. Space is limited to 12 participants.
