Registrations for reflective practice Faculty Learning Community due September 15

The Center for Teaching & Learning in the Office of Instructional Innovation is holding a Reflective Practice Faculty Learning Community (RP-FLC). The group will consist of 10–12 professors from various disciplines and will meet once per month throughout the fall 2017 semester. Participants will analyze their teaching and learning practices, as well as the scholarship informing such practices, in order to provide more effective and transformative learning environments for OHIO students.

“This faculty learning community presents an excellent opportunity for participants to engage with colleagues from across disciplines in a curriculum-based, active, collaborative program designed to enhance teaching and learning,” said Tim Vickers, director of the Center for Teaching & Learning.

This year’s theme will explore the question, “How do faculty create a more engaging classroom for today’s university students?” Potential topics for participants to consider include:

  • What does it mean to engage students, and how do we do this?
  • How do we assess engagement in modern-day education?

The RP-FLC meets the following days:

  • September 22, 1:15–3:00 p.m.
  • October 13, 1:15–3:00 p.m.
  • November 17, 1:15–3:00 p.m.
  • December, TBD

“As a structured gathering of critically reflective teachers, the RP-FLC offers a unique and safe forum to reflect on one’s teaching practices and student learning, constructively engage with other reflective teachers, and digest evidence-based resources,” said facilitator Emmanuel Jean-Francois, associate professor of educational studies. “These will help participants make better classroom decisions that can provide a sustainable and transformative learning experience to their students.”

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until September 15. To register, please fill out this brief form.
