OHIO’s first, only women’s scholar program open to first-year students

Deadline to apply for Margaret Boyd Scholars Program is Oct. 20


Ohio University’s first and only women’s scholar program is seeking applications from first-year female students on the Athens Campus who are interested in participating in a four-year academic enrichment and leadership development experience. 

The Margaret Boyd Scholars Program is accepting applications now through 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. Named after OHIO’s first female graduate, the program seeks to inspire undergraduate women to become engaged, confident and connected leaders at Ohio University and beyond.

Twenty first-year students will be selected for this year’s cohort of Margaret Boyd Scholars. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program in late November. The program officially begins just prior to the start of spring semester with a scholars’ retreat followed by a first-year seminar during spring semester.

Other elements of the program include a second-year residential component, focus on a third-year internship experience and a fourth-year capstone seminar, as well as numerous other opportunities. As part of their development, Margaret Boyd Scholars are also encouraged to explore other opportunities within the University, including but not limited to study abroad, athletics, and involvement in campus and community organizations. 

First-year students interested in learning more about the Margaret Boyd Scholars Program are encouraged to attend one of the following one-hour information sessions that will be held in the Women’s Center on the fourth floor of Baker University Center:

  • Monday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. 
  • Thursday, Oct. 12, at 5 p.m.
