Community invited to welcome reception for Japan American Society director

The executive director of the Japan America Society of Central Ohio (JASCO) will visit Ohio University on Monday, Sept. 25, and all faculty, staff, students and area residents are invited to the welcome reception.

The event will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the Friends of the Library Room on the third floor of Alden Library.

During the reception, JASCO Executive Director Benjamin Pachter will give a presentation on his organization and the work that it does. In addition, Ohio University faculty and staff will discuss the University’s ties to Japan.

Faculty, staff and students who are active with the partnerships with Japanese universities, businesses, organizations, or those who are interested in learning more about the partnerships are encouraged to attend.

JASCO is a private, non-profit membership association of individuals from the U.S. and Japan who work to bring the Japanese and American communities together, promote goodwill through the sharing of knowledge about Japan, and provide a forum for informed discussion regarding the Japan-U.S. relationship.

JASCO also holds Japanese language contests for high school and university students, provides cultural training programs, holds industry-specific seminars, assists Japanese residents who move to Central Ohio, and even takes part in career fairs.

Pachter, who took over as executive director in April, is visiting Ohio University in order to meet with students, faculty and staff and discuss ways JASCO can assist students with career development while also working with faculty and researchers to develop new partnerships and projects.
