Financial Aid Basics workshop coming Oct. 5 to Ohio University Eastern

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio University Eastern Student Services Office will be holding a free Financial Aid Basics workshop on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. in Shannon Hall. The goal of the workshop is to help college-bound families navigate through the financial aid process and answer questions about the FAFSA.

“Our financial aid workshop will provide you with information about student aid opportunities from the federal government (FAFSA), the state, as well as private sources. You will be able to ask questions about the different types of aid and hear from a panel of parents, school counselors, and a veteran’s benefits representative,” explains Diann Nickerson, enrollment services manager. “We will be exploring and comparing costs of attendance at various types of institutions to help students and parents make informed decisions when selecting a college to attend.”

Participants will receive handouts to take home for reference that will include online resources and where to look for scholarship opportunities.

“Being fiscally responsible is something Ohio University strives to impress upon its students. Learning about the tools and resources available will help students discover the best options for making fiscally sound decisions about their college education,” Nickerson added. “This is an opportunity to learn the importance of the FAFSA, seeking guidance from financial aid personnel, and meeting deadlines.”

Senior high school students and their parents are invited to register at www.ohio.edu/eastern. For more information, call (740) 699-2536.
