OHIO’s Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First-Year Students recognized with multiple national awards

Accolades highlight recent increase in campus Honor Society membership

The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First-Year Students has awarded the Ohio University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta with both “Delta Gold” and “Lambda Bronze” awards for their recent, exemplary work to successfully increase chapter membership.

OHIO’s Alpha Lambda Delta chapter, an honor society for first-year students who have a minimum 3.5 GPA measured on a 4.0 scale, was recognized with the following:

  • A 2017 Delta Gold award for a 79 percent increase in the chapter’s membership from 2015-16 to 2016-17.
  • A 2017 Lambda Bronze award for experiencing a 72-student increase in the chapter’s membership from 2015-16 to 2016-17.

“Preparing first-year students for academic excellence is one of the hallmarks of an Ohio University education,” said Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis. “I’m very proud to see the students within our Alpha Lambda Delta chapter being rewarded for their valued recruitment efforts.”

President Nellis also recognized the hard work and leadership of Dr. Jenny Hall-Jones, OHIO’s associate vice president/dean of students and Alpha Lambda Delta chapter advisor.

“Dr. Hall-Jones’ chapter support and leadership has fostered a positive environment that is essential to student success,” President Nellis said. “Her efforts and guidance are to be commended.”

Eileen N. Merberg, executive director for The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First-Year Students, celebrated the OHIO chapter’s growth and the support that the Society provides to its first-year students.

“The growth of this honor society demonstrates that more academically talented students are drawn to your campus and that the successful transition of these students from high school to college has been supported,” said Merberg.

The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta has been recognizing outstanding students on college campuses since 1924, and the society has initiated more than 1,000,000 gifted students and awarded over $3 million dollars in scholarships. Alpha Lambda Delta currently includes more than 275 chapters nationwide.
