Bobcats show their spirit and programs at annual Town Center Invasion


ASHLAND, Kentucky – Ohio University Southern took over the Ashland Town Center Friday night. Normally an event held around Christmastime, this year’s event was moved to celebrate back-to-school season. 

Southern Campus Admissions Advisor and Recruiter Oreatha Murray said that events like this, though a lot of work, are a great way to reach hundreds in a few short hours. “Bobcat Invasion truly is a team effort — including program directors, faculty, staff and students – and even though we are all exhausted by the end of the night, we know that our efforts may change the lives of many who decide to go to college,” Murray said. “The personal touch of all involved makes such a difference.”

Mall visitors were able to speak to campus representatives about the more than 30 degree programs that the Southern Campus offers. Event volunteers were also on hand to share information about their college experience and to answer questions.

Associate Director of Student Resource Commons Robert Pleasant said that events such as these provide a welcoming environment for potential students to ask questions and learn more about opportunities at the Southern Campus – just across the river. 

“Bobcat Invasion is a fun way for potential students to learn more about our programs and processes in a way that’s less intimidating,” Pleasant said. “Also, many don’t know that due to the KEES Kentucky Tuition Reciprocity program, students in five neighboring counties of Kentucky can attend at the same rate as Ohio in-state tuition. KEES puts dreams within financial reach for many Kentucky residents.” 

Additionally, the evening included games, giveaways and a live remote by the local radio station, WLGC. Participants had a chance to take selfies with Rufus and see some of the Electronic Media Program’s equipment in action.
