Teambuilding Trip a Homerun

Members of the Facilities and Security operation at the Zanesville Campus gathered for an evening of fun at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, last week thanks to the efforts of Director of Facilities Todd Thacker.

“It is important for Facilities/Security staff to interact at work as well as outside of work, to engage in activities together,” said Thacker. “This builds and strengthens relationships within our department.”

Thacker reached out to Rick Hesterberg, manager of external affairs at the Georgetown (Kentucky) Toyota plant, to coordinate the event for the Zanesville staffers as a thank you for their commitment to taking care of the Zanesville Campus of Ohio University and Zane State College. Those who attended had access to The Luxury Box, which was hosted by Toyota Motor Corporation.

“The goal is to help transition a group of individuals into a cohesive team, one that works together to meet the needs of the campus,” Thacker explained. Staff members and their families were invited to participate in the game day event.

Some who attended had never been to a ball game and some had not visited the Cincinnati field, but the consensus was that it was an unforgettable experience. “It was my first trip to the Great American Ball Park,” said Dwight Gildow. “It was an amazing experience, one of the best in my life. And, the Reds won!”

Jacob Darner agreed, adding, “It was my first baseball game ever, and it was fun.” He went on to explain that it was a good opportunity to get to know one another outside the workplace.

“I appreciate that Todd took time out of his schedule to make this possible.” Darner said. Gildow echoed the sentiment, adding, “Thanks to Director Thacker for arranging for the tickets.”

Those who attended the teambuilding ball game (in the photo on the left) included from front left Aaron Norman, son of Justin Norman; Jeff Lloyd, Todd Thacker, Walt Gildow, father of Dwight Gildow; Dwight Gildow, and Don Wayne. Middle row: Justin Norman, Dallas Pulley, and Steve Gallagher. Back row, Jacob Darner and Rod Darner. Also attending was Tammy Lloyd, Jeff’s wife.
