We're nearing the end of the second week of summer classes and we're headed into the first summer holiday: Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 28! Here's a little trivia for you: Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. It is considered the unofficial beginning of summer and its purpose is to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. At Ohio University, all offices will be closed and classes will not be in session.

You can read more about Memorial Day but keep reading below for a few highlights of OHIO events from the next seven days, taken from the official OHIO Calendar of University Events. Anyone with an active OHIO ID can log in and complete the form to add events that are sponsored by any OHIO planning unit or registered student organization. So be sure to add your OHIO events, programs and deadlines to the CUE to help keep all members of our University community in the loop!

AVP for Alumni Relations Candidate Open Forum

Tantrum Kids Theater Camp
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 29-June 1 | Athens Campus

Do you know a budding thespian between the ages of 8 and 13? Then this is the perfect summer experience for them! This camp is designed for both the beginning and more seasoned child actor, and develops fundamental performance skills in presence, voice, movement and creative expression. It cultivates self-expression, imagination, creativity, and collaboration, and culminates in an informal performance open to the public.

"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley: Art, Literature, Science, & Technology Across Two Centuries

It's your last chance to experience the famous monster in all of his glory in the fourth floor lobby area of Alden Library because the exhibit closes on May 31! See different editions, versions and formats of Frankenstein, as well as some of the scientific texts and authors that served as inspiration for author Mary Shelly.
