Informational session for Bike to Work Day celebration is April 11

Ohio University is partnering with the City of Athens, Athens County and other community partners to celebrate Bike to Work Day in May.

In preparation for the May 18 celebration, the Athens area partnership will host a Bike to Work Lunch and Learn Brown Bag from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, April 11, in the Ohio University Baker University Center 233.

During this informational session, Megan Buskirk with the Athens City-County Health Department will facilitate a discussion that addresses bike safety, security and accessibility, as well as shared community resources. Bicycling and active transportation options in the Athens community will also be discussed during the event.

“The brown bag session will center on promoting bicycling as a healthy and safe active transportation option for commuting to and from work,” said Tia Hysell, Ohio University interim manager of Transportation Services. “We will use the brown bag session to help get the word out about bicycling options in our community and provide route information and tips to new bicycle commuters.”

According to the bikeleague.org website, May is National Bike Month and includes Bike to Work Week, May 14 to May 18, and Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 18.
