Parking Services provides preliminary guidance to faculty, staff ahead of lot 83, 84 closure

Ohio University faculty and staff who currently park in lots 83 (Clippinger Research Annex) and 84 (near Clippinger Hall) will notice a change in August 2018, as these lots will permanently close to make room for construction as part of OHIO’s Comprehensive Master Plan.

OHIO Transportation and Parking Services will continue to provide updates throughout the spring and summer in preparation for the permanent closure of lots 83 and 84, including alternative parking options for faculty and staff with dark green permits.

“We are currently identifying opportunities for reevaluating existing parking options for faculty and staff to make up for the loss of spaces in lots 83 and 84,” said Teresa Trussell, interim manager of Parking Services. “Parking Services will continue to communicate throughout the spring and summer to ensure faculty and staff are informed of their parking options beginning in August.”

At this time, faculty and staff who park in this area are reminded of several parking options in addition to lots 83 and 84, which include:

  • Lot 90 (dark green) near Morton Hall
  • Lots 51-54 (purple) off of South Green Drive, and additional purple lots underneath Nelson Hall on South Green
  • Lot 93 (purple) near the Ping Recreation Center
  • South Green Garage

Employees are encouraged to use OHIO’s Campus Area Transit Service (CATS) Purple Loop, which services lots 51-54, McCracken Hall, Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium and Baker University Center between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, for convenient transportation from exterior lots to the interior of campus. After 5:30 p.m., employees can request on-demand transit, called the CATS Late Night, by calling 740-593-4040.

Long-term solutions to address parking needs on the Athens Campus will be evaluated as part of the Parking Master Plan, an effort of Transportation and Parking Services and University Planning that will coincide with OHIO’s other planning initiatives including the Comprehensive Master Plan and Six Year Capital Improvement Plan.

More information regarding parking options in advance of the closures of lots 83 and 84 will be released in the coming months in OHIO Employee News, which is distributed to faculty and staff every Monday morning via email.
