OHIO students bring 5 Days for the Homeless to the U.S. for the first time

Six OHIO One-Year MBA students will be going homeless on the Athens Campus to raise awareness and funds for homelessness in Southeast Ohio.

From Feb. 25 to March 2, the students will “live” on the West Portico of College Green as part of the 5 Days for the Homeless (5D4H) campaign. In addition to awareness, the campaign also seeks to raise funds for a local organization that supports those in need. All of the donations raised during this campaign will go to support the Good Works, Inc. Timothy House, an organization that provides shelter and opportunity to those struggling in the area. Together, we hope to make a difference for many and break down the stereotypes that surround homelessness.

“We’re so proud of Nicole Galli and her fellow MBA Bobcats for bringing the inaugural 5 DAYS for the Homeless event to the United States,” said Tanya Barnett, director of the One-Year MBA program. “The class of 2018 embodies the One-Year MBA program’s social impact mission; they’re on track to donate over 1,000 hours to the planning and execution of this eye-opening fundraiser. The College of Business invites the Athens community to join us in raising awareness and funds for Good Works and making this signature event a longstanding tradition.

5D4H was founded by students at the University of Alberta School of Business in Canada, and OHIO’s campaign is the first in the United States.

There are a variety of ways for others to participate in the campaign:

Participate
Throughout the five days, the six students will be holding various events to raise awareness of 5 Days for the Homeless, raise funds for the Timothy House, and get the Ohio University community involved. Each day will have a different event that can be found on the 5D4H calendar

Sleep-a-thon
Join the sleepers for one night! By raising $50 or simply donating $50 to the campaign, you can sleep out with our 5D4H team. To sign up, please fill out the Google Form.

5 Dares for the Homeless
Throughout the campaign, there will be five faculty dares (head shave, sleep out, pie in the face, wear a costume to work, hair dye). Each day, there will be a fundraising goal, and if that goal is met, the faculty member will have to complete the dare the following day. If you would like to be involved in a dare or know someone that would be willing to, please email Nicole at ng075916@ohio.edu.

Donate
If you are unable to participate in any of the 5 Days for the Homeless events from February 25 to March 2, but would like to donate to the campaign, please visit our website at 5d4h.com/schools/ohiouniversity.

All of the funds raised will be going to support the Good Works Timothy House.

Spread the Word
The more we can spread awareness of the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign, the greater the impact we can make in the lives of others. Please share the website and follow the journey on Twitter: @5daysOU.
