Ohio University’s Women Pioneer Series kicks off at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, with the showing of the film, Dolores, at the Athena Cinema located at 20 S. Court Street in Athens, Ohio. It is the first of four free films in the series.

The film tells the story of Dolores Huerta, who is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized.

She tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the 20th century. She continues the fight at the age of 87.

With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother to 11 children, the film reveals the raw, personal stakes involved in committing one’s life to social change. The film is directed by Peter Bratt and Hillary Clinton and Angela Davis appear in the movie.

Dr. Alicia Chavira-Prado, Ohio University special assistant to the vice provost for diversity and inclusion, will provide an introduction to the film.
