University joins the Common App

Early deadline to apply Dec. 1

Prospective Ohio University students can now apply for admission through The Common Application, an online college application that allows students to apply to multiple schools through one online service.

The university joins some 700 other schools across the country using the Common App, including seven other four-year public universities in Ohio. The application opened Aug. 1.

“Our participation in The Common App should streamline the application process for students, especially those considering multiple institutions of Ohio University’s caliber,” said Candace Boeninger, assistant vice provost for enrollment management and director of Undergraduate Admissions. “Millions of students use The Common App, and our goal is always to be where applicants are; that goal aligns well with OHIO’s access mission.”

Ohio University accepts the Common App for Athens campus freshman, transfer, and international applicants only. Students applying to regional campuses, eCampus, or as non-degree applicants will complete the appropriate CollegeNet ApplyWeb application, available at www.ohio.edu/apply. College Credit Plus applicants will complete a paper application. All students, with the exception of eCampus applicants, will still have the option of completing a paper application, if preferred.

“We have been looking at joining The Common Application for several years but wanted to do a thorough evaluation and campus vetting of the platform,” said Craig Cornell, senior vice provost for strategic enrollment management. “We were able to work across all levels of campus faculty and staff and there was much interest generated through that process. We felt the timing was right to go live this year.”

For students applying for freshman admission in fall 2017, the early action deadline for priority consideration for direct entry to academic programs, merit scholarship programs, and University honors experiences is Dec. 1. For more information, go to www.ohio.edu/admissions/apply.
