Author Robert Gipe to speak at Alden Library on Tuesday


Ohio University Press author Robert Gipe will speak at Authors@Alden at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 in the 1951 Lounge, on the fourth floor of Alden Library.

His illustrated novel, "Trampoline," (Ohio University Press, 2015) traces the story of 15-year-old Dawn Jewell as she is drawn into her grandmother’s fight against mountaintop removal mining in their east Kentucky community.

The book won the 2016 Weatherford Award for fiction from the Appalachian Studies Association, and has been hailed as “one of the most important books to come out of Appalachia in a long while” (Silas House) and “a new American masterpiece” (Chapter16.org/Humanities Tennessee).

In other press news, OHIO alumnus Kyle Kondik’s book, “The Bellwether: Why Ohio Picks the Next President has just been released, with media interest heating up in advance of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Kondik has appeared in the Associated Press, Ohio Magazine and The Columbus Dispatch, and on The Daily Show, Fox & Friends, and elsewhere. Kondik will speak at the Columbus Metropolitan Club at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Akron-Summit County Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14 and the Cleveland Public Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16. He also will come to Ohio University for an Authors@Alden conversation in September.
