Ironton residents attend town forum at Ohio University Southern

IRONTON – More than 70 people participated in a town forum on the campus of Ohio University Southern to discuss the state of the city. The session took place in the Collins Center’s Bowman Auditorium Monday evening.

The forum provided a platform for city officials and Mayor Katrina Keith to share information about the city’s daily operations and the current financial status of the city with residents. Ohio University Southern officials also provided campus updates to the public, including news about Southern’s enrollment, admissions information and recent student, faculty and staff accomplishments.

“When Mayor Keith approached us about holding the meeting on campus, I thought it was a great idea to share information together,” said Dr. Nicole Pennington, dean of the Southern Campus.

“Since Ironton is ‘home’ to the Southern Campus, we want to open ourselves as a resource for the community,” Pennington said.

The session was a special called meeting of the City Council and provided an opportunity for city officials and the mayor to discuss with constituents the current state of Ironton city finances and recent mandates from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency regarding the city’s wastewater treatment facility.
