Take a closer look at 2017 Graduate Commencement [PHOTOS]

Nearly 800 students walked the stage to receive their degree


Ohio University said goodbye to nearly 800 graduate students at the Friday, April 28, Graduate Commencement ceremony in the Convocation Center. 

2016 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award winner Dr. Risa Whitson, an associate professor of geography and in the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, delivered the keynote address. The University also awarded an honorary doctoral degree to alumnus David Crane, one of the world’s best international law experts.

Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit announced that Dr. Devika Chawla, professor in the School of Communication Studies in the Scripps College of Communication, is the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award. She will deliver the keynote speech at the 2018 Graduate Commencement ceremony.

Dr. Risa Whitson

Dr. Risa Whitson, an associate professor of geography and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, delivers the graduate commencement address. David Crane, David Descutner

OHIO alumnus David Crane receives an honorary doctorate degree from Interim President Dr. David Descutner (right). He has held many positions during his 30-year career with the U.S. federal government, including: judge advocate for the U.S. Army, assistant general counsel of the Defense Intelligence Agency and founding director of the Office of the Intelligence Review in the Department of Defense.
