Jennifer Lewis Neubauer to step down as executive director of the OHIO Alumni Association and assistant vice president of Alumni Relations

Jennifer Neubauer, executive director of the OHIO Alumni Association and assistant vice president of Alumni Relations, has accepted a new position at The University of Illinois, her alma mater. Her last day at OHIO will be June 30.

UI has named Neubauer president of its alumni association. A 1982 graduate of UI’s College of Education, she began her career in advancement as a development associate with the University of Illinois Foundation. She will be the first woman to serve in the dual role of president of the UI Alumni Association and as associate vice chancellor of alumni relations of the Urbana-Champaign university.

Neubauer arrived at OHIO in fall 2012 and has provided strategic direction for the University’s alumni relations efforts and has implemented programs, activities and services to build relationships and to engage the University’s more than 220,000 living alumni around the world. Her award-winning efforts have included the students and alumni of all of OHIO’s campuses: the Athens Campus, five regional campuses and the new campuses in Dublin and Cleveland.

“Jennifer has been a great asset to and the driving force behind OHIO’s alumni engagement strategies for nearly five years,” said J. Bryan Benchoff, vice president of University Advancement and president and CEO of The Ohio University Foundation. “The Bobcat Nation has made great strides and benefitted from her experience and expertise, as well as her energy and passion for this place.”

This move will be a special homecoming for Neubauer. “As a native of Champaign-Urbana, an alumna and someone who started her career in alumni relations with the U of I Foundation, the University of Illinois has always been present in my life. While I can think of no greater honor or privilege than to go back home and practice the profession I love at my alma mater, I will never forget my Bobcat Family,” she said.

Neubauer continued, “I have had an incredible experience at OHIO, and have come to love and cherish this amazing place as well as — and above all — my colleagues within the Office of Alumni Relations and on the OHIO Alumni Association Board of Directors. I have also had a wonderful time engaging with Bobcat alumni — many of whom I count as friends. Perhaps most importantly, my children have benefited from OHIO educations, and the three of us will cherish the time we had together here in Athens as a family. There will always be some green and white in our blood. I owe an incredible debt of gratitude to Ohio University.”

In the coming weeks, Interim President David Descutner and 21st President Duane Nellis will work with Benchoff to develop a succession plan for leadership of the OHIO Alumni Association. An interim executive director of the Association and assistant vice president for alumni relations will be appointed to fulfill the position’s duties and responsibilities as a national search gets underway.
