The 4th annual On The Green Weekend reunites Bobcats with traditional and new events

This week OHIO is bursting with Bobcat pride as it welcomes home alumni and friends for the annual On The Green Weekend 2017. A spring homecoming, On The Green features activities for the OHIO community, alumni and their families, and those celebrating class milestones and special reunions. Events this year will highlight academics and the arts, hosting many of the usual programming with some exciting new events.

On The Green kicks off Wednesday with guided tours and concludes Sunday with a farewell brunch. The days in-between are packed with activities for all.

Here’s the On The Green event highlights:

The weekend begins early Wednesday with a historical tour of Athens. Learn how Athens, the University and Court Street have changed over the years by interacting with historians and current students.

Go back to the classroom on Thursday with the 2017 edition of Alumni College, featuring courses on wellness, history and more. Or get some fresh air with a round of alumni golf. On The Green Film Festival premiers in the evening at the Athena Cinema, followed by live music and desserts at College Green.

Continue to test your knowledge with more Alumni College courses on Friday, then enjoy a shuttle bus tour around campus. Stroll the bricks or the bike path and shop Uptown before a night of karaoke at the Over Hang.

All events lead up to a full day of fun Saturday. Lace up your sneakers for the annual Bobcat Dash run and bike ride, or the new 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament. Next, roll through the Cruise-In At The Convo classic car show, and stop by Pepsi Tailgreat Park for Athens inaugural Food Truck Festival. Later, enjoy Lancaster Theatre’s production of “The Fantasticks,” or take an educational tour of Athens local breweries.

In the evening, recommit your love to your OHIO sweetheart during the "OH, I dO" vow renewal ceremony at Galbreath Memorial Chapel. Discover the history of the mysterious Athens Asylum atop “The Ridges” with a walking tour before settling in for a night of hip-hop music, poetry and dance performances at the Hip Hop Congress Alumni Showcase.

Celebrate your OHIO sweetheart at On The Green

Bobcat love is a love that lasts forever. Recommit your love to your OHIO sweetheart by taking part in the “OH, I dO!” vow renewal ceremony during On The Greek Weekend 2017. The guided ceremony celebrates couples who connected with their spouses during their time at OHIO.

The event will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Galbreath Chapel in College Green.

Before reciting their vows, an officiate will invite each couple to stand and share the story of how they met at their alma mater.

“OH, I dO!” is a beloved OTG tradition, and couples who participate range from newlywed OHIO sweethearts to Bobcats celebrating a golden anniversary.

Last year, about 30 couples participated in the event, which was held at the Konneker Alumni Center. Associate Director of External Relations Erica Lipscomb estimates more couples will attend this year because the ceremony is being held in its original venue, Galbreath Chapel.

“It’s a sweet, simple event,” Lipscomb said. “It’s a feel-good ceremony and people enjoy it.”

Registration is free, which includes a complimentary photo of each couple following the ceremony.
