Deadline to apply for course design studio is April 18

Teaching courses in an online or blended format gives faculty the opportunity to reconsider how they connect to students and keep them engaged with the content. The Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) is offering a workshop, Design Studio for Online and Blended Courses, to help faculty think about online learning as a transformative educational experience.

The course design studio is scheduled May 1–5 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. on the Athens Campus. Co-facilitators Patrick Mose and Hope Moore, instructional technologists in OII, will provide instructors with guided support as they work to design or redesign an online or blended course. The workshop format will include time for group discussions, hands-on structured sessions and one-on-one consultations.

“Learning and designing in a workshop format like this really helps faculty meet their goals,” said Mose. “This experience will significantly improve faculty’s course design skills through hands-on experiences with accomplished instructional technologists and fellow faculty.”

Studio sessions will address course goals and objectives, interactive elements, accessibility, and specific considerations for designing online and blended courses. Participants will spend dedicated time each afternoon working on their course.

The workshop is limited to 15 participants, who are expected to attend the course design studio all week. Faculty members who want to participate in the workshop need to submit the application by Tuesday, April 18. Those selected to attend will be notified by Friday, April 21.
