African Studies Spring Lecture on ‘Group Prenatal Care in Malawi and Tanzania’ set for April 7

Ohio University’s African Studies program will present its Spring Lecture “Group Prenatal Care in Malawi and Tanzania,” featuring Dr. Crystal L. Patil, on Friday, April 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Walter Hall 135.

The lecture will focus on “Centering Pregnancy-Africa, Results from a Pilot Study Conducted in Malawi and Tanzania.”

Patil is a medical anthropologist with a specialty in mixed methods and global health. The motivation for her research stems from a concern for social justice and the welfare of underprivileged and marginalized communities in the United States and globally.

Patil has conducted mixed-methods biocultural research in Africa and the urban United States. Her research focuses on how the immediate social world becomes embodied or expressed as health, illness or suffering.

The event is being sponsored by the Center for International Studies and the African Studies Program. All students, faculty, staff and area residents are invited to attend.
