Meet Debra Crabtree, the February Classified Employee of the Month

Great job Debra!

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," provides a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Very surprised.We had just started our staff meeting when members of Classified Senate stepped into the room. There are two other classified staff members in the office and I was not sure who they were here for until they announced my name.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

My title is administrative services specialist and I have worked at Ohio University for a little more than 16 years. I have always worked in Alumni Relations, but have been promoted and had title changes since I started.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

The staff. They are the best staff to work with and make working in Alumni Relations fun. Also my job duties, because no day is ever the same. There is so much variety in what I do. I have met and worked with so many interesting staff and alumni.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I was born in Athens and still live here. My mom still lives in the house that I grew up in.

What are your long-term goals?

I plan on working in Alumni Relations until I retire. At that point, I hope to spend more time with family and friends and also travel more.

What was the last good book you read?

I like to read true crime, so anything written by Ann Rule or Kathryn Casey is good.

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working in ____?

The medical field. I am interested in medicine and treatments to help people.

What things in life are the most important to you?

My family and friends.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

The Isle of Palms and Charleston, South Carolina. The Isle of Palms is the most beautiful laid-back beach, and Charleston is about 15 minutes away. You get the beach, history, restaurants and shopping. If you go, plan to spend at least four full days there.

What are your hobbies?

Walking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

When I was 18 years old, I saw KISS in concert twice within two weeks. First in Charleston, West Virginia, and then again in Dayton, Ohio.

What are your favorite TV shows?

HGTV’s "Beach Front Bargain Hunt" and "House Hunters." I am also a big BRAVO TV fan. I love to watch "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and "The Real Housewives of Orange County," "Vanderpump Rules," "Southern Charm" and "Below Deck."

Who are your favorite musicians?

I love 1970s and 1980s music.

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

The family vacation to Myrtle Beach. We have been going there for the past six years. My mom, my brother and his family and my niece and her family are going. We spend quality family time together.

Who are your favorite celebrities?

Ellen DeGeneres. She is so funny, entertaining and she does a lot of good things for people.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

I don’t have a dream vehicle. I like my Toyota Camry and will buy another one.
