M. Hashim Pashtun, chief justice of Ohio University’s Student Senate, sent the following message to OHIO’s student body regarding upcoming Student Senate 2017-18 election candidates and debates:

Dear Ohio University Students,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2017-2018 Student Senate Election candidates and debate schedule. The candidates are listed here for your review.

Campaigning will take place in two parts this year; the passive campaign period (March 14th -19th) when you will be able to find candidate/ tickets web pages and social media accounts or schedule meetings to occur during the active campaign period (March 20th – April 4th) which will include the following debates:

  • Executive Debate – Monday, March 20, 7 p.m., Bobcat Student Lounge
  • Academic College Senator Debate – Tuesday, March 21, 7 p.m., Seigfred 401
  • Residential College Senator Debate – Monday, March 27, 7 p.m., Porter 103
  • Executive Town Hall Forum – Tuesday, March 28, 7 p.m., Walter 235

Beyond attending in person, there are multiple ways to engage with the debates this year—submit a question in advance using this link or watch the livestream on @OUSenate’s Periscope!

Elections will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 and end at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. The online ballot will be accessible to all current Ohio University students. An email will be sent with voting information prior to elections, follow along with #OHIOUelections on social media for coverage.

Student Senate is responsible for representing student issues and concerns within the university, and as such we hope that you will consider attending one of the debates sponsored by the Student Senate Judicial Panel. This is a great opportunity to engage with your future student government leaders.
