Ohio University Police Department to host Department Recognition Ceremony Feb. 7

Ohio University Police Chief Andrew Powers sent the following message to the OHIO community regarding this event's cancellation.

Due to a series of events and issues that have required our time and attention, I am writing to inform the community that I have canceled OUPD’s Department Recognition Ceremony that was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight. While I believe it is important to recognize the hard work and achievements of our employees and community members, the safety of our community will always be our first priority.

Thank you very much to all those who put time and effort into planning this event, and to all those who planned to attend. I hope we will be able to reschedule the event for later in the year.

The Ohio University community is invited to attend the fourth annual Ohio University Police Department Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Baker University Center Ballroom B.

Col. Paul A. Pride of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will deliver the keynote speech at the ceremony, where OUPD employees will be recognized with service and conduct awards. OUPD will also honor community members who contributed significantly to the safety of the OHIO community.

In addition, OUPD will be receiving a gift in the form of an antique rifle that was once owned by Andy Griffith.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available after the ceremony.
