OHIO Up Close visit programs begin this month

Ohio University’s Athens Campus will be hosting admitted freshmen and transfer students on select days throughout spring term at OHIO Up Close. The open houses will give each student a chance to see the campus, meet the faculty and learn more about their academic program before making their final college decisions. These visit programs begin in February and run through the end of April giving students multiple dates from which to choose.

There are seven dates (Feb. 20; March 3, 17, 24, 31; April 7, 21) and each program will begin with an optional campus tour and welcome session, followed by an academic session. Following lunch, select residence halls displaying the different room styles will be open for viewing. There is also a campus resource fair and a Life at Ohio Q&A session where both students and parents can ask the questions they have not had answered yet regarding student life, financial aid, and housing and residence life.

OHIO Up Close also offers services and opportunities specific to admitted and transfer students like the option to take the language placement tests and even confirm their intent to enroll by submitting their housing contract and deposit or commuter exemption for the upcoming school year. Students and their families can also take a special bus tour that includes the sporting fields and arenas, Uptown Athens, and the Ridges.

Transfer Day at OHIO Up Close, an open house for transfer students, will be held on Friday, March 17. Along with taking part in the OHIO Up Close schedule for the day, transfer students will get a chance to have lunch with transfer ambassadors, where they can speak to current students who have also transferred to the Athens Campus. Students will also participate in transfer meetings with an Undergraduate Admissions transfer advisor where students can learn more about the transfer process in general including how their credits will transfer.

“OHIO Up Close is more than the typical campus visit. It is an opportunity for admitted students to engage in the Ohio University experience and picture themselves here as a student. The program provides a multitude of activities and one on one  interactions with current Bobcats, faculty and staff who help the admitted students obtain a deeper understanding of their academic and student life opportunities at OHIO,” said Kevin Witham, senior associate director for Undergraduate Admissions.
All admitted first-year students are encouraged to visit one of the seven OHIO Up Close programs to learn more about the University and their academic program. Transfer students are encouraged to visit during Transfer Day at OHIO Up Close on Friday, March 17. For more information, please visit www.ohio.edu/ohio-up-close.
