iCUE Spotlight: February 9-16, 2017

What's in the CUE this week at Ohio U.

As week five of the semester heads to a close, it's important for students to remember that you're in college not just to expand your knowledge and meet lifelong friends, but also to ultimately end up in a career you love one day. Headlined by the Career and Internship Fair on Feb. 14, there are lots of events on campus designed to prep you for every step of the job application and employment process. Be sure to take advantage of these and you'll have a head start when you graduate!

And remember, anyone with an OHIO ID can add events that are happening on all OHIO campuses.

Here are a few highlights from the week ahead:

Beyond the Website: Research a Company Before Your Interview (Thursday, Feb. 9, 3 to 4 p.m., Alden Library Learning Lab 251): You can be perfectly adept at listing your skills and qualifications and have the perfect résumé, but if you don't have an in-depth knowledge about the company you're interviewing for, it may be difficult for you to get your dream job. This workshop led by Business Library Chad Boeninger will inform you on how to use business and industry research tools from the library to do more thorough research than just googling the company or looking up their website.

Career and Internship Fair (Tuesday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Baker University Center Ballroom): It's here! You do not want to miss the chance to network with hundreds of employers from a wide variety of industries at the biannual career fair. Recruiters from across the country will allow you to take at jobs and internships within your chosen career field or even pique your interest in something else entirely. Plus, you don't want to miss the Night of Networking that follows from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Konneker Alumni Center. Who knows, you might make a Valentine's Day match with your future employer!

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations (Wednesday, Feb. 15, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Stocker Center 103): Challenge accepted! Twenty-two Ohio University doctoral and master’s candidates are stepping up to the challenge of presenting their culminating research project in three minutes or less. These presentations are open to the public and prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists as determined by a panel of judges, as well as to an additional winner chosen by the audience.

#CUEtip: Generally, any event that is sponsored by an official University department or a registered and recognized student organization is eligible for calendar inclusion. Events that take place at an Ohio University campus or center also are eligible.

Be sure to visit calendar.ohio.edu/admin/setupevents.aspx and log in with your OHIO ID to add your organization or department's events to the CUE. Feeling lost? Visit www.ohio.edu/calendar/help/ or e-mail calendar@ohio.edu for help.
